Our Story
Started by the Mayhew family in 1947, in Prince Edward Island, the “Mayhew Cycle Shop” grew to Sackville in the late 1960’s. We started in a small building with Payzants Building Supplies. We later moved into a residential house located at 209 Sackville Drive (photo above), purchased by the Mayhew family to be renovated into Sportwheels. Once completed, the store carried: bikes, roller skates, hockey skates, hockey sticks, performed bike repairs, and skate sharpening. We shared our Space with Monroe’s TV repair, until 1986 when we built our new building! Our new building shared space with Monroes TV repair and Sackville Small Engine. In 1990 we expanded the building to twice the size, and now occupy the entire facility! Still owned by the Mayhew family, now into the 4th generation.
In 2018 we opened The Warehouse Multi-Sport Training Centre. With 10,000 square feet of indoor recreational space, the next evolution of Sportwheels. Our goal at The Warehouse is to create a welcoming environment that ensures all clients are actively engaged, motived and having fun. Giving our customers a place to play the sports they love all year round. The Warehouse is Halifax's all-season training center for Baseball, Hockey, Lacrosse, Cricket, Disc Golf and more.

I believe in helping families stay Active. I've been around the Sporting Goods business since I was 6 years old and purchased the family business back in 2013. Since then we have been using retail as a means of sustainable giving to help children in need stay active. My goal is to help 100 children each year. I am the 4th generation family owner of Sportwheels Sports Excellence. I run a variety of sport programs for active youth, I am married with two children, and I am into ultra running and cycling. I eat, sleep and breathe an active lifestyle, and I am obsessed with helping others do the same. I have an incredible passion for sports and helping people worldwide play the games they love. I have been with Sportwheels since 2006 and became an official partner in 2018. My goal is to help continue the growth of this family legacy. When you think of Family and Sporting goods, I want people to think of Sportwheels first. I am an active ball player, gym goer and big family man. I am married with 3 amazing children. I love playing Slopitch, spending quality time with my family and teaching an active lifestyle to my children.
